Andrew KiharaClass of: 2019
Major: Applied Economics and Management Hometown: Chappaqua, New York Member Since: September 2016 Bio: Andrew grew up playing the piano and trumpet. As he did, he developed an image that percussion instruments were lame. "They can only provide beats and not actually produce music," he thought. But then Andrew discovered the wonderful Japanese arcade drumming game called "Taiko no Tatsujin" and would pour in thousands of yen to play it whenever he went to Japan. So Andrew changed his mindset of percussion to "All right, well, drumming is fun to play as a game." When his sister joined the Taiko club in Wellesley college, he made fun of her (something he now regrets). But when he attended one of her performances, Andrew was bombarded with the intense energy that real Taikos give. Andrew had never felt this experience from playing piano or trumpet and knew he had to start drumming. As a transfer student, Andrew didn't get the "freshmen experience" and thus, was worried about making friends and such. But the senpai of Yamatai welcomed him into the family and now he looks forward to every day of practice!
