Oliver LeungClass of: 2021
Major: Mathematics and Computer Science Hometown: Mundelein, Illinois Member Since: September 2018 Bio: Just like every other Asian American, Oliver started playing the violin and piano from a young age. He absolutely hated lessons and practicing for hours every week, but thanks to his mom's persistence, he eventually got better at the violin. Oliver didn't really like the piano though, but he still knows one party-trick piece: Chopin's Nocturne No.9, Op. 2. After joining a violin performing group and his elementary school's orchestra, Oliver grew to love classical and jazz music. Before Oliver had even moved into Jameson Hall in his freshman year, he chanced upon the Gaifuu video from PULSE 2014 - immediately, he knew that he had to try out for Yamatai once he arrived at Cornell. He had spent 9 years as a violinist in his elementary, middle, and high schools' orchestras, but he was looking for a new musical experience in college. Although he didn't make it on the first time, Oliver tried out again his sophomore year and made it onto Yamatai! Outside of Yamatai, Oliver is also a part of AguaClara and helps design water treatment plants in Latin America.
